How we might use future tech to care for loved ones.

Last January I tried VR glasses for the first time. I was at the Singapore Science Museum attending a temporary exhibit. The exhibit was VR. There were three chairs and no queues so I gave it a go. It was a rollercoaster ride. I was seated in a rollercoaster car and could see in any direction I turned my head; sky, land below and the rails tracks ahead and behind. I was real and very fun. I do not like to ride rollercoasters but  I walked away thinking it was great technology.  Then I forgot about it.

Kitchen design to match its owner

Kitchen design to match its owner

When was the last time you walked down the street and passed a dog owner walking a four legged version of themselves?  We see this all the time. Its fascinating how we choose our own traits in our pets. Your kitchen design should be the same. It should reflection how you cook and what is most important to you when cooking, preparing and storing food. Current trends on the market are about surface finishes and overall "looks", not about the efficiency of a kitchen.

Office design at home or in a remote office, ultimately we all want the same thing.

Office design at home or in a remote office, ultimately we all want the same thing.

Office design is a design art form in itself or better said, a specialization within interior design. A comprehensive understanding of human psychology is paramount as well as the varying needs of every profession, sound issues, storage and flow. At home we think we can take the easy route, "I only need a desk and chair" you're saying to yourself,  but really we all need the same things regardless of where the "office" is: a quiet well designed space where we can focus on the matter at hand rather than trying to find important documents which were poorly filed or not filed at all, good light, natural light access, a supportive chair and a desk which is ample size to meet our needs and storage, storage and more storage.

Lighting - design rather than simply illuminating

Lighting - design rather than simply illuminating

Lighting. I'm very passionate about it. Apart from needing to see properly it radically improves any space. Last week I focused on lighting on Instagram, mostly looking at designers based in the U.S. After a visit to Denfair on Friday I was reminded how much amazing talent there is in Melbourne and Australia. I generally breeze through a furniture trade fair in Melbourne in roughly an hour. I arrived at 10:30 am and did not leave until well after 5 pm. It was a fantastic day filled with lovely people and reminded me of what it was living in New York when I was more in touch with creatives;  people passionate about what they make and design.

How to achieve the right "brand" look for the event

When a new illustration client approaches us most do not know what kind of design they want. They know they need to send out an invitation or an announcement and it need only be something simple. Simple is the brief.  More eyes start to critique the work as we progress and more information comes to light but I also start to guide them towards what they might like and would fit with their "brand". Even if its a bride who does not have a brand per say they do have a style they want to convey and really impress their friends and family. Yes a type of brand. An impressive design will always increase the number of people who want to attend your event. This project started at a simple pdf to be incorporated into an email and became a suite of work from a Save-the-Date, a formal letterpress invitation with matching hand lettered envelopes, place cards, menu and thank you cards.

We started with local design elements from the location

This sign was based on a famous tourist sign in Key West.  We redesigned it with their trips while courting; he lived in Tahoe, while she is a born and lived in New Yorker...

How to create a point of difference. Styling for the airbnb market.

How to create a point of difference. Styling for the airbnb market.

Have you got an airbnb to rent? Does your neighbour? I've even thought about renting my apartment on airbnb when I'm out of town. Price is not always a factor when renting. How to create a point of difference when the market is fully saturated with space that all look the same.
